Food For Thought: “Never lose sight of the fact that the most important yardstick of your success will be how you treat other people – your “Family,” friends, and coworkers, and even strangers you meet along the way.” Barbara Bush #EachOneReachone
All month long, we have been talking about the importance of being “intentional.” This week, we are talking about being intentional within our family relationships.
What is God’s design for family, and how can we have the relationships God meant us to have? Are the relationships we have within our families a proper reflection of our relationships with Christ? #ThinkAboutThat
Families are close to God’s heart. In fact, they were His idea in the first place. From the beginning, when God created man, He said, “It is not good for man to be alone,” so He created woman as a “help-meet, suitable for him” (Genesis 2:18). Then, He blessed them and told them, “Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish [fill] the earth” (Genesis 1:28) Even after they fell into sin, God continued with His plan for families, and even spoke prophetically of the salvation that would come through the seed of the woman (Genesis 3:15).
Throughout history, the family has been the foundation of society. Within a strong, well-functioning family we can fulfill our physical and emotional needs. Strong family ties provide us the love and security we need. Strong Families leads to strong communities!
I believe that our first responsibility as christians are to those that are closest to us (our family, friends, neighbors and those within our sphere of influence). More often than not, we find ourselves “too busy” within the confines of our day to give the necessary attention needed to those that are closest to us.
“I’ve been guilty (but not anymore).”
The Lord has impressed upon my heart that this year (2019), hubby and I are to be more “intentional” within our family relationships. We are to be the first to; “offer prayer, a word of encouragement, and share the word of God (the Bible) with them.” Being a “soul-winner” starts at home first!
